Course Description:
This course provides a comprehensive overview of economic development theories and practices with a
focus on developing countries, particularly India. It examines the meaning, measurement and determinants
of economic development, then, explores the role of human resources in development. The course also
introduces concepts of sustainable development, and analyses India's development experience from pre independence to contemporary scenario.
Course Outcomes:
1. Conceptualize economic development and differentiate it from economic growth.
2. Understand the determinants of economic growth and development using theoretical frameworks and empirical evidence.
3. Understand the role of human resources, including education, health, and gender in economic development
4. Understand the concept of sustainable development and its application in policy-making.
5. Study India's development experience, including the successes, challenges and implications for future policy.
